UNIQUE LOCATION - SWITZERLAND’S NEWEST CONVENTION CENTER Together, the new Zurich Convention Center and the historic Tonhalle complex create a unique European venue with endless possibilities for whatever event you are planning. International specialist conventions with several thousand participants? Meetings in rooms with natural light and marvellous views? Corporate conferences with star guests on the big stage? Captivating product presentations on the breathtaking terrace with a panoramic restaurant? In the new Zurich Convention Center, truly anything is possible – and carbon neutral to boot. After a four-year overhaul with an investment of CHF 174.4 million, the new, highly modern Zurich Convention Center and world-renowned ZurichTonhalle opened in summer 2021. AS DIVERSE AS THE EVENTS - OVER 80 YEARS OF MICE EXPERTISE 5 300 m2 of event space, 4 500 seats and more than 20 rooms and foyers: The new Zurich Convention Center is the largest venue of its kind in the center of Zurich. It sets new standards in terms of space, flexibility and individuality. On request, almost all spaces and rooms can be made smaller or bigger, be partitioned or extended. All rooms are equipped with state-ofthe-art technology. By subdividing the building and creating different event spaces, several events and breakout sessions can be held simultaneously. The structural and operational symbiosis with the Tonhalle opens up additional attractive possibilities. The Tonhalle is one of the largest concert halls for classical music in Zurich. Sit back and enjoy perfect acoustics from any seat. It is not for nothing that the Grosse Tonhalle is considered to be one of the best concert halls in the world. Organisers can make use of our first-class in-house catering service, with over 80 years of experience. On request, we will design a customised catering concept for you, ensuring that your event is a feast for the senses. Together, the new Zurich Convention Center, the historic Tonhalle complex, the new restaurant with its large terrace and the inviting bars with lounge areas will act as an international magnet for event guests, concert-goers, tourists and local residents. INTERNATIONAL STAGE The Zurich Convention Center has already welcomed numerous global stars, from jazz legends Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Ella Fitzgerald to entertainers Josephine Baker, Sammy Davis Jr. and Harry Belafonte and rock and pop giants Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Deep Purple, Udo Jürgens and Patricia Kaas. We have also had the honour of welcoming Nobel Laureates in Literature, US presidents, federal councillors, business leaders and personalities such as the Dalai Lama into the iconic building, and the award ceremony for the world Footballer of the Year has already been held here. LARGE RANGE OF HOTELS Almost all hotels in Zurich can be reached very easily from the Zurich Convention Center, thanks to its central location and excellent public transport connections. In Zurich and the surrounding region, more than 15 000 hotel and guest rooms are available, over 1000 of which are within walking distance. CONNECTED TO THE WORLD Located in the heart of Europe, Zurich is ideally connected to the rest of the world. 60 direct flights to over 170 destinations around the globe lead to the cosmopolitan city. It takes just 20 minutes to travel from Zurich Airport to the Zurich Convention Center.

According to legend, Charlemagne discovered the graves of the city’s patron saints Felix and Regula and had a church built as a monastery on the spot. In the first half of the 16th century, the Grossmünster church was the starting point of the Swiss-German Reformation led by Huldrych Zwingli and Heinrich Bullinger. The theological college then annexed to the monastery spawned what is now the University of Zürich. The stained glass windows by Sigmar Polke, the Romanesque crypt, choir windows by Augusto Giacometti, bronze doors by Otto Münch and the cloister Reformation Museum are just some of the highlights see here

Fraumünster – a Church in the Old Town With Windows by Chagall and Giacometti The Fraumünster and Grossmünster churches are landmarks of Zurich. The convent once held great power in Zurich. Founded in 853 by King Louis the German, this church with its convent was inhabited by the female members of the aristocracy of Europe. The convent enjoyed the patronage of kings and the abbess the right to mint coins in Zurich until well into the 13th century. Ownership of the church and convent passed to the city of Zurich after the Reformation. Important architectural features include the Romanesque chancel and the high vaulted transept. The nave was last renovated in 1911. Its most stunning treasures are the stained glass windows: those in the north transept are by Augusto Giacometti and the five-part cycle in the chancel and rosette in the southern transept the works of Marc Chagall. The cloister also reveals a series of frescos by Paul Bodmer.

Where ships were once built and engines bolted together, art, design, food, culture shopping and architecture are now the center of attention. Factories have moved away, leaving their vast expanses of space that creative minds have taken advantage of. Beneath the railway arches, design boutiques and market halls have moved in at what's know as "Im Viadukt" – and on the Gerolds-Areal you find Frau Gerolds Garten (Mrs. Gerold's Garden), a city garden and catering establishment. Besides the Freitag Flagship Store, diverse second hand furniture stores are also on the spot. On the other side of the Hardbrücke (bridge) the 126m Prime Tower reigns – boasting number-one place as Switzerland's highest building until the opening of the Roche Towers in Basel.

Niederdorf is part of Zurich's old town – and the locals fondly refer to it as “Dörfli”, meaning the entire Niederdorf and Oberdorf area that extends as far as Bellevue. Niederdorf is a pedestrian zone the same as Limmatquai, which runs parallel. During the day, the pedestrian zone and many stores, which are almost hidden in alleyways, entice you to shop. In the evening, Niederdorf changes into a nightlife district for a very varied public with its bars and street artists.

At 2,850 feet above sea level, Uetliberg towers over the rooftops of Zürich. The mountain affords an impressive panoramic view of the city, the lake and the Alps. The Uetliberg is particularly popular in November, as its summit is often above the blanket of fog that can cover the city at this time of year. In the winter, the hiking trails to the summit are converted into sledding runs. In summer, there’s plenty to discover on well-marked hiking routes, a mountain bike route, and on the Planet Trail. This two-hour walk from Uetliberg to Felsenegg (Adliswil) takes you on a fascinating tour through a model of our solar system.

The Tonhalle Zürich has been the home of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich since 1895. Having undergone a complete programme of renovation between 2017 and 2021, it has now been restored to its former glory. Built at the turn of the 20th century, the Tonhalle has seen many changes in the course of its history. Partially demolished, the building was extended with the addition of the Kongresshaus; much of its original ornamentation was removed; its colourful decoration was toned down and then restored. However, the two concert halls remained substantially unchanged – which is particularly fortunate, as the Grosse Tonhalle is acoustically one of the world’s finest concert venues. The entire complex is now classified as a historical monument. Thanks to the Zurich electorate, which in 2016 voted by a large majority in favour of a complete renovation, the venue now meets today’s varying requirements both in the auditorium and behind the scenes – and has been restored to its former glory. Following the renovation programme lasting from 2017 to 2021, the Grosse Tonhalle’s old tonal brilliance has also returned.

Covert Cocktail Club
Covert Cocktail Club

Once upon a time in 2016, Matt Levy, founder of Covert Cocktail Club, hosted a secret speakeasy as an intimate place for strangers to gather in his home. The only way to find out about it was via word of mouth. No address was given, the only clue being a sign placed in the window, “Cocktails Here”. A lot of people thought it was pretty cool, even before The New York Times wrote about it. But that was all pre-pandemic, and this is a new era. Liberated from the confines of a single location, Covert Cocktail Club now brings the speakeasy right to your door—be it at your home, office, bar mitzvah, dinner party, bachelor/ette party or anywhere you choose!
