它始建于 1180 年，位于一座 6 世纪教堂的废墟上，于 1476 年完工。这座建筑长 80 米（内部），合唱团宽 20 米，中殿高 32.5 米。后殿和合唱团采用罗马式设计；中殿和外墙是哥特式的。
值得注意的是祭坛右侧和左侧的两个十字架，自1274年里昂第二届理事会以来一直保存下来，作为教会联盟的象征，以及波旁教堂，由波旁公爵查理二世枢机主教和他的兄弟皮埃尔·德·波旁建造，路易十一的女婿皮埃尔·德·波旁是15世纪雕塑的杰作。
大教堂里还有14世纪的里昂天文钟。
大教堂管风琴由 Daublaine 和 Callinet 建造，于 1841 年安装在后殿尽头，有 15 个停靠点。它由 Merklin-Schütze 于 1875 年重建，有 30 个停靠点、三个包含 54 个音符的键盘和 27 个踏板。
