The High Line (also known as the High Line Park) is a 1.45-mile-long (2.33 km) New York City linear park built on a section of a disused New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line.[1] Inspired by the 3-mile (4.8-kilometer) Promenade plantée, a similar project in Paris completed in 1993, the High Line has been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway and rails-to-trails park.[2][3] The High Line Park uses the disused southern portion of the West Side Line running to the Lower West Side of Manhattan. It runs from Gansevoort Street – three blocks below 14th Street – in the Meatpacking District, through Chelsea, to the northern edge of the West Side Yard on 34th Street near the Javits Convention Center. An unopened spur extends above 30th Street to Tenth Avenue.[4] Formerly, the High Line went as far south as a railroad terminal to Spring Street just north of Canal Street, but the lower section was demolished in 1960.[5] Re-purposing of the railway into an urban park began construction in 2006,[6][7] with the first phase opening in 2009[8] and the second phase opening in 2011.[9][10][11][12] The third and final phase officially opened to the public September 21, 2014.[13] A short stub above Tenth Avenue and 30th Street, is still closed As of September 2014, but will open by 2015.[14] The project has spurred real estate development in the neighborhoods which lie along the line.[15] As of September 2014, the park gets nearly 5 million visitors annually.[16]

Known as "Little Bohemia" starting in 1916,[4] West Village is in some ways the center of the bohemian lifestyle on the West Side, with classic artist's lofts in the form of the Westbeth Artists Community and Julian Schnabel's Palazzo Chupi. It is also the site of sleek new residential towers designed by American architect Richard Meier facing the Hudson River at 173/176 Perry Street. The High Line connects the historic district to the nearby neighborhoods of Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, and Hudson Yards. The elevated train tracks, mostly running parallel to Tenth Avenue, have been converted to an open greenway. The tracks once served the businesses in the area, but have been long abandoned and converted into a popular public park

SoHo, sometimes spelled Soho,[2] is a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, New York City, which in recent history came to the public's attention for being the location of many artists' lofts and art galleries, but is now more noted for its variety of shops ranging from trendy upscale boutiques to national and international chain store outlets. The area's history is an archetypal example of inner-city regeneration and gentrification, encompassing socio-economic, cultural, political and architectural developments.[3] The name "SoHo" refers to the area being "SOuth of HOuston (Street)", and was also a reference to the London district of Soho.[4] It was coined by Chester Rapkin,[5] an urban planner and author of the The South Houston Industrial Area study,[6] also known as the "Rapkin Report". This began a naming convention that became a model for the names of emerging and re-purposed neighborhoods in New York such as TriBeCa for "TRIangle BElow CAnal Street", DUMBO ("Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass"), NoHo ("NOrth of HOuston Street"), Nolita ("NOrth of Little ITAly") and NoMad ("NOrth of MADison Square"), among others. Almost all of SoHo is included in the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District, which was designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1973, extended in 2010, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1978.[7] It consists of 26 blocks and approximately 500 buildings,[8] many of them incorporating cast iron architectural elements. Many side streets in the district are paved with Belgian blocks.[9]

East Village is a neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan in New York City, bordered to the west by Greenwich Village, to the north by Gramercy Park and Stuyvesant Town, to the south by the Lower East Side, and to the east by the East River. Generally, although definitions vary on the neighborhood's exact street boundaries,[2] East Village is considered to be the area east of Third Avenue and the Bowery to the East River, between 14th Street and Houston Street.[1] The area was once generally considered to be part of the Lower East Side, but began to develop its own identity and culture in the late 1960s, when many artists, musicians, students and hippies began to move into the area, attracted by cheap rents and the base of Beatniks who had lived there since the 1950s. The neighborhood has become a center of the counterculture in New York, and is known as the birthplace and historical home of many artistic movements, including punk rock[3] and the Nuyorican literary movement.[4] It has also been the site of protests and riots. East Village is still known for its diverse community, vibrant nightlife and artistic sensibility, although in recent decades it has been argued that gentrification has changed the character of the neighborhood.[5]

The Guggenheim Museum is an embodiment of Wright's attempts to render the inherent plasticity of organic forms in architecture. His inverted ziggurat (a stepped or winding pyramidal temple of Babylonian origin) dispensed with the conventional approach to museum design, which led visitors through a series of interconnected rooms and forced them to retrace their steps when exiting.

Blue Note Jazz Club
Blue Note Jazz Club
New York
Since 1981, Blue Note has been a cultural institution in New York City and one of the premiere jazz clubs in the world. Owner and founder Danny Bensusan had a vision to create a jazz club in Greenwich Village that would treat deserving artists with respect, while allowing patrons to see the world’s finest jazz musicians in a close, comfortable setting. Artists who had stopped playing in jazz clubs decades before, such as Sarah Vaughn, Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Turrentine, Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, and Tito Puente, soon called Blue Note home.
