Huntington Place is the 16th largest convention center in the United States. Built by the City of Detroit, it was originally opened in 1960 and named Cobo Hall in honor of former Detroit Mayor Albert E. Cobo (1950-1957). In 2009 the Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority (DRCFA) was established by the state of Michigan and leased the facility from the City of Detroit to own and operate it for 33 years. The five-member Authority Board consists of one representative from each of five government agencies – the City of Detroit, State of Michigan and the three metro-Detroit counties of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb. In October 2010, the DRCFA awarded the contract for operations management of the facility to Legends Global, the world leader in venue management, marketing and development, who rebranded it Cobo Center, and revived the business to its current world class status. In 2019, the DRCFA awarded venue naming rights to TCF Bank, and in 2021 TCF Bank merged with Huntington Bank. Today, Huntington Place hosts conferences, conventions and tradeshows bringing one million visitors a year from across the globe to Detroit.

The Detroit Riverwalk, voted best in the country three years in a row by USA Today 10Best, connects parks, greenways, and communities along the Detroit River. Currently stretching almost four miles from Gabriel Richard Park on the east to Riverfront Towers west of downtown, the Riverwalk allows visitors to enjoy the beauty of the Detroit Riverfront by foot, bicycle, roller skates or any non-motorized method of transportation. Campus Martius Park is a city of Detroit treasure and a national and international destination. Recently, Campus Martius Park was named the No. 1 "Top Public Square" in the U.S. by USA Today and has won countless awards for public space design, management, operations, placemaking and programming. The DIA's collection is among the top six in the United States, with more than 65,000 works. The foundation was laid by William Valentiner, who was director from 1924 to 1945 and acquired many important works that established the framework of today's collections. Among his notable acquisitions are Mexican artist Diego Rivera's Detroit Industry fresco cycle, which Rivera considered his most successful work, and Vincent van Gogh's Self-Portrait, the first Van Gogh painting to enter a U.S. museum collection. A hallmark of the DIA is the diversity of the collection. In addition to outstanding American, European, Modern and Contemporary, and Graphic art, the museum holds significant works of African, Asian, Native American, Oceanic, Islamic, and Ancient art. In 2000, the DIA established the General Motors Center for African American Art as a curatorial department in order to broaden the museum's collection of African American art.
