The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary, in Mckinney Texas, is the result of one woman’s vision for the future and her commitment to the community and North Texas. Miss Bessie Heard devoted most of her lifetime (1886-1988) to the city of McKinney and its people. Her philanthropic endeavors and generosity of spirit left a legacy of accomplishment few people attain. Miss Bessie’s greatest contribution to her community and North Texas is the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary. Miss Heard was 80 years old when she saw the need to preserve a place where future generations could visit to experience nature. The museum opened October 1, 1967 and now serves more than 100,000 visitors annually. In keeping with Miss Heard’s vision, the museum’s mission is threefold: education, conservation and preservation. Through education, particularly for young people, the Heard emphasizes an appreciation of nature and its conservation.

TUPPS brewery began in 2009 when Keith Lewis and former partner, Tupper Patnode, brewed their first batch of beer, with a home brew Christmas gift from Keith’s wife, Pam. They enjoyed the process and creativity, so began brewing every weekend with Keith’s son, Chris, now the Head Brewer. Eventually, they realized they could turn this hobby into a business. Fast forward to 2015…. they found a great location, built the brewery with their bare hands, and opened! In the beginning, TUPPS self-distributed around the DFW area. In 2017, TUPPS joined with Ben E. Keith and expanded into other cities in Texas. Along the way, Keith’s oldest son, Chase, and daughter, Katie, joined the expanding business. It became a true family affair! In 2020, TUPPS Brewery was listed as the 10th largest independent craft brewery in the state of Texas. The family realized they were outgrowing their current location and needed to move. With the help of the City of McKinney, TUPPS was able to secure a 4-acre site within walking distance to the historic square in Downtown McKinney at the historic Grain Mill. TUPPS Brewery opened the new site in early 2024 which features a restored 120-year-old grain mill taproom and kitchen, state of the art brewery, a children’s play area, outdoor stage and plenty of green space. Customers can come out and enjoy live music, lawn games, local shops and exciting events. This family business grew organically because of a love of beer, people, and fun! As a family, we hope to leave a legacy behind through TUPPS Brewery. Whether it’s passing down brewing traditions to future generations or leaving a positive impact on our community, we know the future of TUPPS is bright.

Established in 2005, Landon Winery has built a reputation of producing quality wines that are distinctive and delicious. Our winery tasting rooms are located in the north Texas wine country with our largest production taking place at our Greenville, Texas winery. Presenting world-class wines in a comfortable setting remains just as important to Bob Landon today as it did when he opened his first winery’s doors in 2005. A warm staff of well-trained wine educators paired with beautiful wines was Bob’s intentional vision, conceived when he opened his first winery tasting room in Historic Downtown McKinney. His ambition to craft the ultimate wine-tasting experience from beginning to end has paid off, and today Landon Winery is honored to be producing some of the top wines in the country. Landon’s talented team of winemakers, led by Jason Dodson, and educated tasting room staff, led by Kim DeFoe, continue to push forward, vintage after vintage, by constantly improving its wine, visitor experience and surroundings – the essence of Landon Winery from the beginning and forever to the end.

In its prime, from 1876 to 1927, the Historic Collin County Courthouse was a bustling hub of activity for Collin County. Many historical events and memories were made in and around the building. Designed in the style of the French Second Empire, the Collin County Courthouse was considered the tallest building in Texas north of San Antonio upon its completion in early 1875. It consisted of two floors, a steep mansard roof with patterned shingles, decorative cut stone and twin towers above the roof line on the east side of the building. Community leaders and volunteers invested countless hours in research and planning for the restoration of this historic facility. The McKinney Community Development Corporation and City of McKinney moved forward and reviewed a compilation of community forums and planning sessions to evaluate the building's use and potential programming. In October 2003, a proposal was approved to re-craft the Courthouse as a cultural center for the citizens of McKinney and Collin County. After extensive planning, diligent attention to detail and respect for historic integrity, the City of McKinney worked hand-in-hand with the Texas Historical Commission to preserve the original beauty of the Historic Collin County Courthouse. MPAC distinguishes McKinney as a regional leader in supporting the arts and cultivating a unique cultural community and in generating economic development.
