Anantara New York Palace Budapest Hotel is a 20-minute drive from the airport. We offer limousine transfers to the hotel for the smoothest of journeys. Budapest’s three railway stations – Keleti, Nyugati and Deli – are only a few stops by metro or tram. By private car: The hotel is pleased to offer valet service, with covered parking available for EUR 27 net per night. There are electric charging points available on-site. By public transport: Blaha Lujza Station, just around the corner from the hotel, is on the red metro line which travels east-west across the Danube. The station also serves as a hub for tram and bus lines.

The first royal residence on Castle Hill was built in the 13th century, after the Mongolian invasion. It was extended in the 14th century, becoming probably the largest Gothic palace of the late Middle Ages. Construction continued in the 15th century, following the marriage of King Matthias Corvinus and Beatrix of Naples in 1476. Many Italian artists and craftsmen accompanied the new queen, bringing the Renaissance style to Buda. The palace was completely destroyed when liberating Buda from the Turks. In the 18th century, a small Baroque palace was built, which is identical with the core structure of the present-day palace. During the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the palace gave home to lavish ceremonies symbolizing peace between the dynasty and the nation. The process of rebuilding the Royal Palace continued in the 19th century, and it was finished in 1904. At the end of World War II, the palace was badly damaged. It was rebuilt once again, in Neo-Baroque style, using many original parts.

The building was opened in 1894 as the opulent European headquarters for the New York Life insurance Company. An eclectic, Belle Époque palace, it was designed by Alajos Hauszmann, a famous AustroHungarian architect – and drew on Italian Renaissance, Baroque, Gothic and Art Nouveau influences. It reopened as a luxury hotel in May 2006 and now in 2020 the hotel is added to the portfolio of Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas. The beating heart of the Anantara New York Palace hotel, the New York Café has preserved all the authentic Belle Époque decoration and charm that once made it an inspiration for the enquiring minds of Hungary’s cultural and intellectual community. The building was opened in 1894 as the opulent European headquarters for the New York Life insurance Company.
