Built in 1855 by Judge John Bragg, the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion is a 13,000 square foot Greek Revival facing Springhill Avenue in Mobile, Alabama. Judge Bragg built the home for his wife and family to enjoy Mobile’s social season, Thanksgiving through Mardi Gras. The Bragg family split their time between the Mansion and their cotton plantation in Lowndes County outside of Montgomery. Judge Bragg died in 1878, and four additional families have owned the home since his passing. The last private owner of the Mansion was the A.S. Mitchell family who purchased the home and property in 1931 for $20,000. They occupied the Mansion until 1965 and took great care in maintaining the home. It was during this time that the Mansion became such an icon of the city of Mobile. Bragg-Mitchell Mansion was generously donated to the Explore Center by the A.S. Mitchell foundation in the late 1970s to be the home of an interactive science museum. Instead of adapting the home for this purpose and potentially destroying the historic integrity of the Mansion, The Explore Center built a separate science museum, The Gulf Coast Exploreum, and began work to restore the Mansion to its antebellum grandeur. Bragg-Mitchell Mansion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. After $3 million in renovations, the home was opened to the public in 1987 and now serves as the preferred location for community wedding receptions, corporate dinners and historic home tours. The long-term goal of the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion is to restore the building, grounds, and furnishings to reflect lifestyles of previous owners.

The Richards-DAR House Museum was built in 1860 for Captain Charles G. Richards and his wife Caroline Elizabeth Steele. It remained within their family until 1946 when the home was sold to the Ideal Cement Company. After operating as a business for many years, the Ideal Cement Company donated it to the City of Mobile. The home was restored and has been lovingly maintained by the local Mobile DAR chapters since 1973. The 1860’s house museum known for its unique four seasons iron lace is magnificently decorated with intricately carved Carrara mantels and original Cornelius chandeliers in its spacious double parlors. The large entry hallway with its beautiful cantilevered stairway, box grand piano, and a Cornelius chandelier add to the elegance of this historic home. The formal dining room complete with a banquet size table and one of Mobile’s largest Baccarat crystal chandeliers provide the perfect setting for entertaining guests for any event.

The History Museum of Mobile, a national historic landmark, is a destination in itself. The City of Mobile's Alabama Cruise Terminal features a two-story 66,000 square-foot terminal, with state of the art security, and an attached 500 space parking deck with six covered pickup/drop off lanes and a pedestrian circulation tower with four elevators, an escalator and a stairwell. The Alabama Cruise Terminal recently installed a selfie station and new informational monitors. The selfie station features a new mural painted by local artist Ginger Woechan. Conveniently located in downtown Mobile, the terminal is close to numerous hotels, restaurants and attractions. For ease of access, the cruise terminal is .5 miles from I-10 and 6 miles from the I-65 and I-10 junction.

Designated as the “Jewel on Joachim,” the Saenger Theatre is a historic landmark treasured for its architectural beauty and ties to Mobile’s cultural history. Opened in 1927, the Saenger is known for the caliber of entertainment it offers our community. This performing arts center seats 1,900 patrons and hosts more than 70,000 guests each year. It is the home of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Summer Classic Movie Series, Lagniappe’s annual Nappie Awards and the Senior Bowl Leadership Summit. The Saenger also hosts national acts such as The Avett Brothers, Willie Nelson, Chicago, The Black Jacket Symphony, Vince Gill, Bob Dylan and more.

Under the cover of night in the summer of 1860, a ship carrying 110 Africans slipped into Mobile Bay. The Clotilda, the last known US slave ship, made its illegal voyage 52 years after the international slave trade was outlawed. In the years to come, the displaced Africans survived enslavement and established a community as free Americans. But they also maintained their African identities, creating the tight-knit, independent community known as Africatown. Then, in 2019, it was announced that the shipwreck of the Clotilda had been discovered at the bottom of the Mobile River: a tangible link to the names and stories passed down through generations of descendants.

The beautiful, state-of-the-art Mobile Convention Center, located on the water in the heart of downtown Mobile, is one of the premier convention centers in the country. Winner of numerous architectural awards, the Mobile Convention Center takes full advantage of an exclusive waterfront setting. The center’s exterior incorporates outdoor terraces, riverwalks and expansive riverfront windows. Magnificent views of the bustling seaport are available many from pre-function areas.

Battleship Memorial Park is a military history park and museum located on the western shore of Mobile Bay in Mobile, Alabama. It has a collection of notable aircraft and museum ships including the South Dakota-class battleship USS Alabama and Gato-class submarine USS Drum. The USS Alabama and USS Drum are both National Historic Landmarks; the park as a whole was listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage prior to that time, on October 28, 1977.
