Across Charles Street from the Public Garden, the Boston Common marks the official start of the Freedom Trail. It is the oldest park in the country, and spans almost 50 acres in size. With the city of Boston having so much history throughout it, the Boston Common is no exception. British troops camped on Boston Common prior to the Revolution and left from here to face colonial resistance at Lexington and Concord in April, 1775. Many might know of Boston Common’s greatest attraction, the Frog Pond. Throughout the year, the Frog Pond transforms to reflect the season. In the summer months, young kids flock from all over to cool off from Boston’s grueling temperatures. Parents can look on as their children splash around while enjoying one of the delicious picnic lunches that the in-room dining team carefully prepares at The Fairmont Copley Plaza. In the winter, people enjoy the Pond as an enchanting place to ice skate. No matter what the season or occasion, the Boston Common is a great place to visit!
