Located in the heart of the city, close to both Porta Principe railway station and the famous bay, the hotel is also very well connected to the Cristoforo Colombo Airport and the motorway. Housed in a stunning nine-story building in the classical style, the Grand Hotel Savoia, Genoa, offers an exceptional dining experience at the Ristorante Salgari. Six meeting rooms and a conference room with space for up to 180 provide options for a wide range of functions. The most important church in Genoa is the Cattedrale di San Lorenzo. The Genoese cathedral and the artistic representations on its walls gave rise to many legends and curiosities. It was built around the year 1098 to support and then replce a sailica, which dated back to the 5th or the 6th century, and was later enlarged with solemn and precious forms. The cathedral is dedicated to San Lorenzo Martire and guards the ashes of the patron saint of the city San Giovanni Battista, brought to Genoa at the end of the First Crusade.

The immense harbour of Genoa stretches for 22km of coastline and is home to a large amount of docks and ports for commercial, recreational and pleasure purposes. This harbour offers a huge amount of potential for tourism and includes a myriad of bars, restaurants and museums. Consider spending some time walking through the various harbours to see the variety of ships, or visit the maritime museum or aquarium. At the central point of the harbour network to the left of the bay is also the fantastic Lanterna di Genoa which is a large 76m tall lighthouse that has stood since the 1100’s in some form.

A UNESCO listed World Heritage Site; the Via Garibaldi is one of the most important streets in Genoa and is famous for its large amount of palaces and fine architecture. Notable buildings include the Palazzo Bianco, the Palazzo Rosso, the Palazzo Doria Tursi, the Palazzo Lomelino and the Palazzo Pantaleo. This narrow street provides a staggering amount of fantastic architecture and the most notable building is possible the Palazzo Rosso which features a bright red/orange façade. Three of these palaces are open to the public – Rosso, Bianco and Tursi and offer a great insight into the history of Genoa together with a range of wonderful artefacts and art collections.

Growing up we understood our Italian heritage through them as people, their stories and by sharing, eating and cooking the dishes that they grew up with from their homeland and using the ingredients that our relatives would send to us in England from Sicily & Naples in small parcels. When our grandparents left us, it reinforced as a family that what they taught and shared with us is a huge part of our cultural identity, and we could not risk that heritage disappearing. Together as a family and working with other Sicilian families our passion is to give back to the land and work with like-minded young entrepreneurs, landowners and farmers in Sicily to keep this heritage and Sicilian traditions, which we all lovingly grew up with, alive.
