The red double-deckers of the Hop-on Hop-off City Sightseeing bus tour are an ideal way to explore the city. Just like in other world cities, the bus runs a fixed route of one hour along a large number of tourist highlights in Rotterdam where you can hop on and off (hop-on hop-off). The tour will take you past Central Station, Museumpark, Erasmus Bridge and Spido, Euromast, via the Kop van Zuid (Cruise Terminal) back past the Markthal.

Splashtours offers a guided tour through Rotterdam in a bright yellow amphibian bus. During a city trip of 60 minutes, the bus will drive past various sights in Rotterdam, including an oral explanation in Dutch and English. Finally, the "splash" follows, a dive in the Maas, after which the bus becomes a boat that sails further along the Rotterdam Skyline.
The bus can also be rented for groups of up to 42 people. In addition, the city tour can be interpreted as desired. Moreover, catering on board is possible, in the form of coffee with cake, lunch, high tea or dinner.
The boarding point of Splashtours is located at Parkhaven in the Scheepvaartkwartier. There are a number of bus parking spaces and sufficient parking spaces for cars on the quay. It is approximately a 5-minute walk from tram stop Westzeedijk (tram line 8). Alternative rental places are possible when renting.

Cube houses
The Cube House, also called pole or tree house, is a design by architect Piet Blom. He wanted to design a kind of village in the big city, where he saw the houses as trees and the entire complex as a forest. This starting point also explains the name: Blaakse Bos. The cubes are, as it were, tilted, so that three sides face the ground and three face the sky. Small-scale businesses, shops and the Stayokay Rotterdam hostel are located on the (traffic-free) promenade below the cube houses. The striking Cube Houses are close to the Market Hall and the Old Port with the White House.

Historical Delfshaven is a picturesque marina and withstood the bombing of Rotterdam in 1940. The port has a striking history. It is the birthplace of naval hero Piet Hein and it is also the location from where the Pilgrim Fathers left for America almost 400 years ago. Historical Delfshaven used to earn a living with herring fishing and distilling gin. Now you can find cozy antique and trinket shops, cafés and restaurants in the historic canal houses. Such as De Pelgrim Brewery and De Oude Sluis café, both with a terrace on the harbor. The terrace of 't Ouwe Bruggetje, one of the better restaurants in Rotterdam, is even on the water.

Market hall
You will find a covered market hall in more world cities, but thanks to the combination with housing, Rotterdam has a world first. The apartments are draped over the fresh market in horseshoe shape. If you walk through the market stalls and look up, you will see the artwork "Horn of plenty" by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam. Because of this largest work of art in the Netherlands, the Markthal is also called the Dutch version of the Sistine Chapel. Interested in a look behind the scenes? Then sign up for a tour with De Rotterdam Tours. On Tuesdays and Saturdays you can combine your visit to the Martkhal with a visit to the weekly market on the Binnenrotte.

Hoek van Holland is the seaside resort town for Rotterdam, the place to be for visitors of all ages. Sunbathing or building sandcastles, watching boats from the Nieuwe Waterweg, strolling through the dunes: Hoek van Holland has it all.
History and additional information:
“De Hoek” is a lively seaside resort which borders onto the North Sea and Nieuwe Waterweg. Hoek van Holland was founded in 1864 at the time the Nieuwe Waterweg was created.
Hoek van Holland started to develop in many ways after the war and again became well known as a sparkling seaside resort. In the 1970s the harbour of Rotterdam needed to be deeper to host the increasing freight vessels. The 19 million cubic meters of sand that was excavated was dropped behind the Noorderpier into the sea. The new land that was created was named van Dixhoorn driehoek, (Dixhoorn triangle) after the engineer van Dixhoorn. Nowadays, these damp dune valleys are home to many unique plants, flowers and animals and are a stunning recreation area to enjoy a walk and/or bike ride.
It’s beautiful boulevard, many parks, striking walking and cycling routes, several unique museums, the world famous Maeslantkering and of course our clean, wide and sandy beaches have attracted many tourists. Hoek van Holland is an all-season coastal seaside resort which will astound you and thanks to our direct connection to Harwich, Hoek van Holland is just a small step away from your perfect holiday

Historic ships contrast beautifully with the modern backdrop of the Oude Haven (Old Harbour). This is where the first skyscraper in Europe was built in 1898: the White House by architect W. Molenhoek. In summertime, the pavement cafés are packed until late at night. Even when the weather is colder, the Oude Haven is a popular entertainment area with the locals for wining, dining and dancing.
The cube houses were designed by Piet Blom, who saw his design as a tree and the entire complex as a forest. Blom wanted to develop a village within a large city; a safe haven where various different functions could take place.
The Kijk-Kubus (Museum House) is a fully furnished show home in the Blaakse Bos, an unusual collection of cube-shaped homes. The interior was specially developed to give visitors an impression of how it’s possible to live in a cube house with sloping walls. Scale models, photo panels and a screen provide visitors with extra information.

Rotterdam offers excellent train connections. The intercity trains from all over the Netherlands call at Rotterdam Central Station, but also the international highspeed trains like the HSL and the Thalys stop in Rotterdam. At Rotterdam Central Station it is easy to transfer to metros, trams and busses in Rotterdam.
The old station by Sybold van Ravesteyn was out of step with current requirements with respect to size, layout and grandeur. What was needed was a new station, designed as one entity: the station hall now runs from Proveniersplein on the north side to Stationsplein on the south – in other words, the 250-metre-wide platform roof forms a whole with the main concourse and the train travellers’ tunnel. The result is that from the moment of arrival, train passengers have the sense of entering a building.
A salient feature of the location is the big difference in character between the areas north and south of the station. To the north there is a residential area. Here the new station roof makes a modest and transparent impression. On the city centre side the station exhibits a new grandeur that is in keeping with the dimensions of the imposing high-rise buildings that characterize the entrance to the city. Rotterdam’s urbanity is reinforced here by a metropolitan station architecture in which the building and the new station square merge. Here the station roof folds to create a welcoming and very spacious station concourse, which also provides direct access to the new metro station below.
Kinderdijk windmills: unique & iconic water management
A significant part of Holland is situated up to approximately 7 meters below sea level. The Dutch don’t notice any of this though, because an incredibly innovative and intricate system keeps the ever-rising seawater from flooding the land. Even during spring tide, the Dutch are safely guarded from being washed away…
The most important aspect of UNESCO World Heritage Kinderdijk is undoubtedly the unique collection of 19 authentic windmills, which are considered a Dutch icon throughout the entire world. A wonderful and unforgettable day trip in the Netherlands for the entire family!
A visit to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is a journey through the history of art. Dutch and European masterpieces provide a comprehensive survey of art from the early Middle Ages to the 21st century, from Bosch, Rembrandt and Van Gogh to Dalí and Dutch Design.
Art collection
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. In 1849 the lawyer Boijmans left his art collection to the city of Rotterdam. With the acquisition of the Van Beuningen collection in 1958 the museum got the second part of its name. The museum houses a unique collection of paintings, sculptures and everyday objects. The collection of prints and drawings is one of the best in the world. The museum also organises a diverse programme of spectacular temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
Old and modern masters
Marvel at the beautiful works by Bruegel the Elder and Rembrandt. Follow the development of Impressionism and Modernism in the paintings of Monet, Van Gogh and Mondriaan. Lose yourself in the dream world of the Surrealists Dalí and Magritte. And the art is not only inside: the museum has a wonderful view of the sculpture garden.
Contemporary art and design
The museum shows how everyday objects have changed over the last eight hundred years, from medieval jugs and glassware from Holland’s Golden Age to Rietveld furniture and contemporary Dutch design. A young generation of visual artists such as Eliasson and Cattelan bring the museum’s art collection up to date.
Stately beacon
The museum’s monumental building opened in 1935. It was designed by the municipal architect Van der Steur specially to house the collection. The stately redbrick building contains both large galleries where art can be viewed in daylight and more intimate spaces. The building survived the bombing of the city in 1940 and has been extended several times over the years. To this day the building’s tower remains a beacon in the city.
History:
Euromast, since 1960
The Euromast was built in 1960 by architect H.A. Maaskant and contractor J.P. van Eesteren, to mark the occasion of Floriade, the international flower and garden exhibition.
A new start in 2004:
Early in 2004, thanks to the intervention of the Hotel New York Group, the Euromast ultimately underwent a complete makeover. Everything will change, apart from the view, so the motto said. The restaurant was given a modern interior (designed by Jan des Bouvrie) and an international menu with style, from an inviting brasserie. Rotterdam instantly gained a fantastic catering establishment, in a unique location.
Stockholm, Barcelona, Valencia, Copenhagen. Almost every large city has one: an indoor food market. A lively market hall which is bursting at the seams with fresh fish, warm bread, tender meat, countless different cheeses and freshly harvested vegetables.
A market where shopping is an experience and where you can go to enjoy a drink or grab a bite to eat.
Imagine: an indoor food market, the size of a massive football pitch; with, in the heart of the market floor, more than 100 fresh produce units from all the food branches, and supplemented with flowers and plants. In the flanks of the arch, also on the 1st floor, food shops and restaurants and even a cookery school.
Above the floor, there are 10 storeys with more than 200 apartments; under the floor, there is a supermarket, a closed-off logistical heart for entrepreneurs, and underneath that some 1,200 parking places. A unique place for shopping, working, going out and living in
A spectacular horse shoe-shaped arch will rise from the Binnenrotte just a five minute walk from the Koopgoot, in the up-and-coming Laurens district.
With its visitor count of around 1.4 million people a year, Rotterdam Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp) is certainly one of the biggest attractions in the Netherlands. Since the opening of the Oceanium, the zoo has almost doubled in size.
Rotterdam Zoo has a number of indoor areas so that in case of rainy weather there are various possibilities for your guests to enjoy themselves. A walk through the fully covered Oceanium, the world of sharks, king penguins, sea lions and yellyfish will take an hour or more.
When diving into the ice cave via the Arctic tundra you will meet the polar bears at very close range. Strolling through the Asian marshes you will meet the elephant family in the indoor tropical forest ‘Taman Indah’.
