Detalhes da sala
If the walls of the Nizwan Suite, (an exclusive meeting space venue with a private terrace garden), could whisper, they would tell tales of sapphires and diamonds, martini-soaked lunches and royal soirees. The Nizwan Suite is a timeless testimony of the wife of the then Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah, a women of beauty, dignity and grace. Steeped in Delhi’s imperial heritage, with every facet of the suite paying an ode to the capital’s illustrious planner-architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, the Nizwan Suite at Taj Palace New Delhi is a space to behold. Boasting of regal indulgences and modern comforts, the suite combines history with the contemporary, like few places can.
Intricate architectural details within the suite are adapted from actual details created for, and implemented at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The artworks around the suite exude glimpses of Delhi’s colonial past that coincides with Lutyen’s work (such as the last great durbar of 1911), while also chronicling Delhi’s more ancient history. One prominent piece of décor is the Napoleon chair, the most comfortable chair he had ever sat on. The Nizwan Suite is not just a commemoration of Lutyens’ British sensibilities but also his interpretation of Indian tradition and culture. Among those is the decorative motif, the Delhi Bell, that appeared in many details around Rashtrapati Bhavan. The silent bell, incapable of ringing, refers to the Indian traditional belief that dynasties fall to the sound of ringing bells. Mughal-inspired motifs merge with classical Western outlooks in a fusion that has come to typify the Nizwan Suite. And the carpet, a prominent element in most of Lutyens’ work and the suite itself, is a tapestry that weaves India’s dynastic history.
Walking into the Nizwan Suite is like walking into a well-trenched chapter in history while basking in offerings that are testimony to a vibrant present and a promising future. It assures to provide an unrivalled indulgence to our guests and be etched in their memory for time immemorial.
