O Forte de Copacabana também abriga o Museu Histórico do Exército. O Forte foi inaugurado em 1914, no promontório da pequena igreja Nossa Senhora de Copacabana, com o objetivo de fortalecer a defesa da Baía de Guanabara. Ocupando uma área total de 114.169 m², o Forte de Copacabana era, na época, considerado a fortificação mais moderna da América do Sul.
Em 1987, as Baterias de Artilharia Costeira foram abolidas e o Museu Histórico do Exército foi criado, estabelecendo-se como um centro de preservação da memória do Exército Brasileiro e um local único de lazer na arena turística/cultural da cidade do Rio de Janeiro.
