Preveza, Antik Nicopolis civarında, Ambracian Körfezi'nde inşa edilmiş, zengin tarihe sahip bir liman kasabasıdır. Bugün Ambracian Körfezi tarafından çevrili sığ su lagünleri, 250'den fazla nadir kuş türünü barındıran olağanüstü ekolojik ilgi alanına sahip korunan bir çevre içermektedir.
