HISTORISCHE GEGEVENS Het huidige Gwinnett Historic Courthouse, rijk aan geschiedenis en charme, werd gebouwd in 1885 en is opgenomen in het nationaal register van historische plaatsen. Het ligt majestueus op het plein in het historische centrum van Lawrenceville en heeft unieke architectonische kenmerken, waaronder een origineel torentje (balkon) en een klokkentoren met vier verdiepingen waarin een Seth Thomas-klok en een bronzen bel zijn ondergebracht. Het belfort dat je ziet in het Gwinnett Historic Courthouse werd gebouwd in 1908. Het werd gebouwd voor een bedrag van $4000 en verving de oorspronkelijke toren die werd gebouwd nadat het gerechtsgebouw in 1871 was afgebrand. Originele jurybank, kroonluchterverlichting, ooit bedienbare imitatiehaarden, kroonlijsten, spiegeldeuren met originele hardware, hardhouten vloeren en plinten maken de interieurkenmerken compleet. Op het terrein In februari 1837 werden de stoffelijke resten van acht soldaten op het plein van het gerechtsgebouw begraven. Deze soldaten sneuvelden tijdens de Slag bij Shepherd's Plantation in Stewart County op 9 juni 1836 tijdens de strijd tegen de Creek-indianen. Gwinnett County is een van de slechts twee gerechtsgebouwpleinen in de Verenigde Staten met een begraafplaats op het terrein. De andere bevindt zich in Norfolk, Virginia en bevat de laatste rustplaats van generaal Douglas MacArthur.
