Het Weald & Downland Open Air Museum werd opgericht om goede voorbeelden van lokale architectuur te redden — van eenvoudige woningen zoals boerderijen, kleine stads- en dorpswoningen tot industriële gebouwen zoals een watermolen, smeden, smeden, timmerlieden en loodgieterswerkplaatsen — die met verwoesting worden bedreigd.
