Camp Nou was de thuisbasis van FC Barcelona sinds de officiële opening op 24 september 1957. Barça's Camp Nou-stadion verving het voormalige FC Barcelona van Les Corts, dat een capaciteit had van slechts 48.000 en te klein werd voor fans van het team dat destijds werd geleid door de legendarische Hongaarse ster Ladislao Kubala. Het Camp Nou stadion werd gebouwd van 1955 tot 1957. Oorspronkelijk was de officiële naam 'Estadi de FC Barcelona', maar het kreeg al snel de bijnaam 'Camp Nou' (het 'nieuwe terrein'). Deze naam werd pas in het seizoen 2000/2001 officieel gemaakt na een stemming per post door clubleden en sindsdien is 'Camp Nou' de officiële naam van het stadion.
Capaciteit:
De huidige capaciteit is 99.354 en is daarmee het grootste stadion van Europa. Bij de eerste opening in 1957 bedroeg de capaciteit 93.053 toeschouwers. Dit werd later verhoogd tot 120.000 in 1982 voor de FIFA World Cup. Nieuwe regels die staanplaatsen verbieden, hebben het aantal stadions aan het einde van de jaren negentig teruggebracht tot iets minder dan 99.000.
