De voormalige South Park Commission (de Commissie fuseerde met 22 andere parksystemen om het Chicago Park District op te richten in 1934) huurde de Chicago-architecten Holibird en Roche in 1919 in om een stadion te ontwerpen dat zou dienen als een showcase „voor evenementen en een speeltuin voor de mensen”. Op 9 oktober 1924 ging het Grant Park Municipal Stadium in première en een jaar later werd het stadion op verzoek van de Chicago Gold Star Mothers omgedoopt tot Soldier Field.
Het stond bekend als een van de beste locaties tijdens de „Gouden Eeuw van de Sport” en een van Chicago's beroemdste bezienswaardigheden. Menigten van meer dan 100.000 mensen kwamen aan de orde van de dag, gekenmerkt door verschillende memorabele gebeurtenissen, waaronder de wedstrijd tussen het leger en de marine uit 1926 en de epische zwaargewicht revanche van Jack Dempsey en Gene Tunney uit 1927 met de controversiële „lange telling”. In 1944 bezochten 150.000 toeschouwers een oorlogsbezoek van president Franklin Roosevelt en duizenden kwamen naar de evangelist Billy Graham luisteren in 1962.
