The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary, in Mckinney Texas, is the result of one woman’s vision for the future and her commitment to the community and North Texas.
Miss Bessie Heard devoted most of her lifetime (1886-1988) to the city of McKinney and its people. Her philanthropic endeavors and generosity of spirit left a legacy of accomplishment few people attain.
Miss Bessie’s greatest contribution to her community and North Texas is the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary. Miss Heard was 80 years old when she saw the need to preserve a place where future generations could visit to experience nature. The museum opened October 1, 1967 and now serves more than 100,000 visitors annually.
In keeping with Miss Heard’s vision, the museum’s mission is threefold: education, conservation and preservation. Through education, particularly for young people, the Heard emphasizes an appreciation of nature and its conservation.

Conveniently located between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, DFW is just 35 minutes from the Sheraton McKinney and offers easy access to the entire North Texas region.
McKinney city and airport leaders will soon break ground on a four-gate terminal building—with the ability to expand to six gates—in support of airline service that is anticipated to launch at TKI in late 2026. With this facility and nonstop passenger flights, North Texas residents, businesses, and visitors will have more options to travel to and from the region, saving them time, money, and hassle.
Dallas Love Field is a city-owned public airport in the neighborhood of Love Field, 6 miles northwest of downtown Dallas, Texas. It was Dallas' main airport until 1974 when Dallas Fort Worth International Airport opened.
TUPPS brewery began in 2009 when Keith Lewis and former partner, Tupper Patnode, brewed their first batch of beer, with a home brew Christmas gift from Keith’s wife, Pam. They enjoyed the process and creativity, so began brewing every weekend with Keith’s son, Chris, now the Head Brewer. Eventually, they realized they could turn this hobby into a business. Fast forward to 2015…. they found a great location, built the brewery with their bare hands, and opened! In the beginning, TUPPS self-distributed around the DFW area. In 2017, TUPPS joined with Ben E. Keith and expanded into other cities in Texas. Along the way, Keith’s oldest son, Chase, and daughter, Katie, joined the expanding business. It became a true family affair!
In 2020, TUPPS Brewery was listed as the 10th largest independent craft brewery in the state of Texas. The family realized they were outgrowing their current location and needed to move. With the help of the City of McKinney, TUPPS was able to secure a 4-acre site within walking distance to the historic square in Downtown McKinney at the historic Grain Mill. TUPPS Brewery opened the new site in early 2024 which features a restored 120-year-old grain mill taproom and kitchen, state of the art brewery, a children’s play area, outdoor stage and plenty of green space. Customers can come out and enjoy live music, lawn games, local shops and exciting events. This family business grew organically because of a love of beer, people, and fun!
As a family, we hope to leave a legacy behind through TUPPS Brewery. Whether it’s passing down brewing traditions to future generations or leaving a positive impact on our community, we know the future of TUPPS is bright.
Established in 2005, Landon Winery has built a reputation of producing quality wines that are distinctive and delicious.
Our winery tasting rooms are located in the north Texas wine country with our largest production taking place at our Greenville, Texas winery. Presenting world-class wines in a comfortable setting remains just as important to Bob Landon today as it did when he opened his first winery’s doors in 2005.
A warm staff of well-trained wine educators paired with beautiful wines was Bob’s intentional vision, conceived when he opened his first winery tasting room in Historic Downtown McKinney. His ambition to craft the ultimate wine-tasting experience from beginning to end has paid off, and today Landon Winery is honored to be producing some of the top wines in the country.
Landon’s talented team of winemakers, led by Jason Dodson, and educated tasting room staff, led by Kim DeFoe, continue to push forward, vintage after vintage, by constantly improving its wine, visitor experience and surroundings – the essence of Landon Winery from the beginning and forever to the end.

The historic Heard-Craig Center was built in 1900 by Stephen and Lillian Heard.
Their daughter, Kathryn, through her philanthropy, gifted the Center to over 20 groups that have helped McKinney in many ways: raising money to build new buildings (e.g. the first Library), donating to the needy, providing scholarships, spearheading community improvements, etc.
The Heard-Craig Center shares the Kathryn Heard-Craig and the Thomas E. Craig collections with the public.
The Center holds the designation as the first ART MUSEUM in the City of McKinney and highlights of the art collection are listed below:
1. Frank Klepper Art
2. Guy Wiggins Art
3. Thomas Stell Art
4. Hand-painted china
5. Glassware (Brilliance)
6. Lou Ray Pottery 1921
7. Victorian Furniture
8. Porcelain
9. Asian Art & Artifacts
10. Textile Collection (Neiman Marcus Couture)
In addition, there is an extensive amount of original fretwork and hand-tooled woodwork throughout the historic museum.
Discover Collin County’s Story in a Historic Landmark
Located in the beautifully preserved 1911 McKinney Post Office, the Collin County History Museum brings the region’s rich heritage to life. Through exhibits, artifacts, and community programs, we preserve and share the stories that shaped Collin County—past, present, and future.
Visit us and explore the people, places, and progress that define our community.
In its prime, from 1876 to 1927, the Historic Collin County Courthouse was a bustling hub of activity for Collin County. Many historical events and memories were made in and around the building.
Designed in the style of the French Second Empire, the Collin County Courthouse was considered the tallest building in Texas north of San Antonio upon its completion in early 1875. It consisted of two floors, a steep mansard roof with patterned shingles, decorative cut stone and twin towers above the roof line on the east side of the building.
Community leaders and volunteers invested countless hours in research and planning for the restoration of this historic facility. The McKinney Community Development Corporation and City of McKinney moved forward and reviewed a compilation of community forums and planning sessions to evaluate the building's use and potential programming. In October 2003, a proposal was approved to re-craft the Courthouse as a cultural center for the citizens of McKinney and Collin County.
After extensive planning, diligent attention to detail and respect for historic integrity, the City of McKinney worked hand-in-hand with the Texas Historical Commission to preserve the original beauty of the Historic Collin County Courthouse. MPAC distinguishes McKinney as a regional leader in supporting the arts and cultivating a unique cultural community and in generating economic development.
LAST Art Gallery opened in downtown McKinney, Texas in 2014. The gallery has become a Co-Op gallery as of June 1, 2019. Many of the same artists and many new artists as well. If you’re searching for the perfect piece to adorn your walls, you may just find it at LAST.

This 108-acre is located just east of Central Expressway and south of McKinney High School. Among the park’s amenities are picnic shelters with electrical outlets, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pitching courts, two playgrounds, fishing, restrooms, high and bike trails, three parking lots, and an 18-hole disc golf course.
Located on a 1.67-acre site in Van Tuyl Plaza at Craig Ranch in McKinney, the Corporal RD Foster Veterans Memorial Park features a Wall of Honor with the inscribed names of Collin County servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives in defense of our freedom, while honoring all veterans. A lighted American flag flies 24 hours a day over the wall. A fountain at the base of the flagpole symbolically waters Shumard Red Oak trees, representing each branch of the Armed Services. A ribbon-like walkway extends from one end to the other.
