Our hotel is famous for its own Austrian Haflinger Ponies which can be seen grazing in the hotel grounds. Guests may enjoy complimentary horseriding along sheltered bridleways during their stay. Our Haflinger ponies are a gentle breed and are ideal for children and novice riders. Enjoy a 10/15 minute guided trek around the grounds. This complimentary facility operates on a casual, no reservation basis. For those feeling a little more adventurous, why not take a 1, 2 or 3 hour guided trek through the National Park which may be arranged with Killarney Riding stables just 5 minutes’ drive from us could be a lovely option for an afternoon.

Boating & Fishing from Private Hotel Pier

The hotel enjoys an unrivaled location directly on the shores of Lough Leane and boasts its own private pier. Boating, kayaking and fishing can be arranged for group team building or leisurely afternoons and we are happy to assist connect you with the local external suppliers. For fishing, we use a local guide (Gordon Tagney) to arrange boating trips directly from our private pier at the hotel – The approximate cost is €100 for up to three people per boat for approx. 2 hours for fishing.

Gap of Dunloe Tour

The Gap of Dunloe is one of the most stunningly beautiful parts of County Kerry and indeed Ireland. Stretching through the MacGuillicuddy Reeks mountain range, this beautiful glacial valley simply must be experienced to be appreciated. Guests of The Europe Hotel & Resort can be collected from the front door of the hotel for this memorable trip. The tour begins with a short coach journey to Kate Kearney's Cottage where you can take a jaunting car or go on horseback through the six mile pass. A packed lunch or BBQ can be arranged at Lord Brandon's cottage upon request. Once through the gap, boats are waiting for the homeward journey via the enchanting Upper, Middle & Lower Lakes to historic Ross Castle where coaches await for the journey back to Killarney or alternatively, guests of The Europe Hotel & Resort can disembark at the hotels' own pier.

Ireland's first National Park lies to the south and west of Killarney town at the foot of Ireland's highest mountain range, The MacGillycuddy's Reeks. Killarney National Park contains the most extensive areas of natural woodland remaining in Ireland. The park today covers an area of over 26,000 acres with numerous walking trails. The park also boasts the three world famous Lakes of Killarney. There are an abundance of walks, trails and cycle paths intertwined throughout the park and every corner turned is a new photo opportunity. There are a number of quaint thatched cottages where explorers can stop for tea and cake (seasonal). Optional extras in the Killarney National Park are Jaunting Car Rides (horse and cart), Boat Trips on the Lakes and Horse Riding.

Muckross House and Gardens The focal point of the National Park and a major tourist attraction in the area is Muckross House, gardens and farms. Dating from 1843 it is a former private residence where you can view the children's toys, the famous Killarney furniture of the library & drawing room & the famous specially prepared bedroom where Queen Victoria slept during her visit in 1861. At Muckross Traditional Farms you are invited to take a stroll down memory lane, to a time before the advent of electricity when all work was carried out using traditional methods. Meet and chat with the farmers and their wives as they go about their daily work in the houses, on the land, and with the animals. Visitors can also enjoy a complimentary trip aboard the Muckross Vintage Coach which circulates the farms.

Ross Castle

Ross Castle was constructed in the late 1400s by one of the O'Donoghue Ross Gaelic Chieftains. Built on a rocky outcrop on Ross Island by the shore of Lough Leane, this imposing castle offers a typical example of an Irish keep and has proved to be a highly effective defensive stronghold throughout the centuries. In fact, it was one of the last castles to surrender to Cromwellian forces in the 17th century. An old Irish prophecy said that Ross Castle would never be taken "until a ship should swim upon the lake". Many years after the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland, the Castle was for the first time occupied by the Browne family. For his loyalty to King James II, Sir Valentine Browne was given the title, 1st Viscount Kenmare - predecessor to Thomas 4th Viscount Kenmare - the acknowledged founder of Killarney Town (1754) and the father of Irish Tourism. The castle subsequently served as an Army Barracks until it was ultimately vacated in 1825. Although "deteriorating", the famous Killarney landmark spent the next 150 years under various owners. In 1970, it came into State ownership and has since been skilfully restored by the Office of Public Works (OPW) and refurnished in the style of the 17th century. It stands on the shores of Killarney’s largest lake and looks out at the legendary monastery on Innisfallen island where Brian Boru, High King of Ireland, is said to have studied. Ross Castle is now open to the public by guided tour only – and offers a Killarney experience that is not to be missed.

Innisfallen Island

Innisfallen island can be seen in the distance from Ross Castle out in the heart of Lough Leane, which translates as the “Lake of Learning”. A monastery was founded on Innisfallen in the 7th century and it became a seat of learning; hence Lough Leane. It is said that King Brian Boru studied there along with many from the noble houses of Europe, as Ireland was seen during the so called “Dark Ages” as a beacon of learning and education. On the island are the remains of the extensive 12th century Augustinian priory and a small 11th -12th century Romanesque church. The annals of Innisfallen, a major source of early Irish history and now stored in the Bodleian Library in Oxford were written there. There is also a small herd of deer on the island. Boat trips to the island can be arranged from the hotel's pier.

The South West of Ireland is now recognised as one of the most popular golf destinations in the world, offering the best combination of world-class links courses such as Lahinch, Ballybunion, Tralee, Dingle, Dooks, Old Head and Waterville and traditional parkland courses of Killarney and the Ring of Kerry. The Killarney Golf & Fishing Club is located adjacent to the hotel. It is comprised of three championship courses. The 18-hole Killeen course (par 72) was the venue for two Irish Opens and was host to the 2010 Irish Open. The 18-hole O'Mahony’s Point course (par 72) boasts stunning views of the iconic Killarney Lakes and the McGillicuddy Reeks. We are delighted to offer discounted green fee rates to our guests. The Beaufort Golf Club (3m) is an 18-hole / Par 71 Parkland course set around the ruins of a 12th century castle. The Ross Golf Club (4m) is a 9-hole championship standard course set against the background of the Mountains. The Ring of Kerry Golf & Country Club (26m) is a majestic 18 hole/par 71 Links course overlooking Kenmare. The Tralee Golf Club (28m) Links course was designed by Arnold Palmer and offers breath-taking views of the wild Atlantic sea (18-hole /par 71). Waterville (46m) is a favourite of Tiger Woods, Mark O'Meara and the late Payne Stewart (18-hole links course/Par 72). The Ballybunion (48m) Links course is favoured by Tom Watson, Bill Clinton & Robert Trent Jones. Considered to be one of the finest golf courses in the world, it comprises 2 Championship 18-hole courses. Ceann Sibeal - Dingle (45 miles) is an 18-hole Links course nestled on the edge of Ireland's dramatic southwest coastline. Lahinch, Co Clare (79m) is an 18-hole Links course which was partially designed by Tom Morris. Old Head, Co Cork (127m) is an 18-hole Par 72 Links course which juts out over 2m into the Atlantic offering spectacular scenery.

Dingle Peninsula

Dingle town is a charming fishing port, the most westerly in Europe and a truly memorable destination. Brightly painted houses and busy streets lead you to the harbor, where you can meet Fungi, a playful bottle-nosed dolphin who has made Dingle Bay his home. A full day can be spent visiting the Dingle Peninsula (approx 10.30am - 5pm). Guests of The Europe Hotel & Resort and Hotel Dunloe Castle are collected directly from their hotel. Beginning in Dingle town you will take a looped tour of the Peninsula along the Slea Head Drive as it twists and turns through some of the most ruggedly beautiful landscape in Ireland. Highlights include views of the Blasket Islands and visits to Gallarus Oratory and the Beehive Huts as well as the Blasket Heritage Centre which is home to one of Ireland’s finest collections of authentic Stone Age, Bronze Age, Celtic and Viking artifacts giving visitors a fascinating insight into Ireland’s history. The trip brings you back to Dingle town where you can spend time visiting the local art and crafts, shops, cafés and bars or simply strolling along the harbour and marina.
