Trondheim, Norway was founded in 997 AD by a Viking King, and was Norway's first capital. Rich in history, today Trondheim is Norway's third largest city, with a population of 200,000. Trondheim is located along the coast of Norway, on the Trondheimfjord (one of Norway's longest fjords). Perfectly located in mid-Norway, between Oslo to the south, and Tromso to the north, Trondheim is easily reached via direct international flights, and regular domestic flights .
Home to Norway's largest university, NTNU (The Norwegian University of Science and Technology), Trondheim has a vibrant international student population. Due to the university, the city has become a hub for Norway's technology and research companies. A safe and easily walkable city, Trondheim offers something for everyone. Visitors enjoy the blend of charming, old-world Norway with modern, hip cafes, galleries and microbreweries.
Outdoor activities for groups year-round, include hiking in Trondheim's Bymarka Nature Reserve, with 200km of marked trails (also great for cross-country skiing). Kayaking on the Nidelva River, sailing on the fjord, RIB boat excursions, even rappelling from a ski jump! Note: Trondheim was chosen to host the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2025.
History buffs are keen to visit Nidaros Cathedral (the world's northernmost Gothic cathedral) built in 1070. A walk thru Trondheim's old town (Bakklandet) is the Norway seen in travel magazines; brightly colored historic, wooden wharf homes line the Nidelva River. With great views of the city, visit Kristiansten Fortress built in 1681. Trondheim museums such as Sverresborg provide a superb look back at Norway's history.
Foodies will delight in Trondheim's abundance of great dining options. The city is known as Norway's Culinary Capital, and features three restaurants with Michelin stars. The fish from this region's waters are said to the best in the country. Nearby farms are known for quality meat, cheese, and produce.

Once upon a time in 2016, Matt Levy, founder of Covert Cocktail Club, hosted a secret speakeasy as an intimate place for strangers to gather in his home. The only way to find out about it was via word of mouth. No address was given, the only clue being a sign placed in the window, “Cocktails Here”.
A lot of people thought it was pretty cool, even before The New York Times wrote about it. But that was all pre-pandemic, and this is a new era.
