Platanias is located west of Chania and approximately 11 km in distance. This is one of the most dynamic a municipalities in the prefecture of Chania with huge tourist development but also serious agricultural production. In the municipality of Platanias, citrus fruit, olive oil, avocados, grapes, vegetables, nurseries, etc. are produced. Platanias has some of the most cosmopolitan beaches of the island. They are distinguished by blue flags, the official certification for clean seas and safe shores. Platanias also includes an important part of a beach where spawning of sea turtle Caretta-caretta takes place, which is also looked after by the Association of Protection of sea turtle ARCHELON, operating in the region since 1989. The seaside villages of the municipality, Platanias, Gerani, the Tower Psilonerou and Maleme have dozens of hotels, shops, restaurants and night entertainment centers. There are options, both cosmopolitan hotels, and remote quiet corners. Thanks to very good tourist infrastructure, organized beach with extensive sand and fun for all tastes, Platanias is a major attraction of tourists and locals all hours of the day. Platanias itself is a picturesque village on the slopes of a hill with spectacular views over the Gulf of Hania, while Maleme hosts the German cemetery of the Second World War. The visitor Municipality Platania has the potential to wander in the wonderful villages hinterlands, where the unique natural beauty coexists with the authentic Cretan tradition. You may enjoy the intoxicating aroma of blossoming orange along the paths of Vryson in Patelari in Modi, in Loutraki and Kodomari. One can taste virgin olive oil and wine fair in the Cretan Manoliopoulo in Ksamoudochori, Vlacheronitissa, and enjoy the fair local raki in Zounaki, Lake and Kyparisso, taste the honey-flavored and traditional xerotigano in Sirili, or see picturesque chapels and relax on the greens of Ntere.
