Savoca is a small town in the Messina province, located about 300m a.s.l. and has not over 1800 inhabitants and alone, it would not be so important if one day, and in the early 1970s, exactly, Mr Francis Ford Coppola didn’t shoot the superb movie The Godfather, with, among the actors, Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Andy Garcia. Savoca is just the place where Michael Corleone asked Apollonia’s father in marrying his daughter. The entire movie was set in Corleone, but instead of this city, Mr. Coppola picked the beautiful town of Savoca. There are two particular attractions to detain you after you have ambled around the streets: - The Bar Vitelli, an attractive building called Palazzo Trimarchi with a balcony and bedecked with plants, featured in Francis Ford Coppola's famous film 'The Godfather' - The Cappuccini Monastery features an impressive collection of 32 ancient mummified monks - some intact some not - in their catacombs, dating from the 18th century
