Since 1938, Rice Village has been one of the most beloved retail and mixed-use districts in the city of Houston. In the 1950’s and 1960’s, Rice Village “filled up and prospered” but the suburban economic boom in greater Houston in the 1970’s caused development to go elsewhere. The influx of young families in Southgate, Southampton, and West University Place in the 1980’s started Rice Village’s suburban revival.
