For the thrills of thoroughbred horse-racing, visit this Albany fast track, located just five minutes from San Francisco over the Bay Bridge (take the Gilman exit). It is an old-fashioned race track with a modern makeover. When the first race starts, the fun begins. Make bets, drink beer, and cheer for your favorite horse. Contests and giveaways at the track are not uncommon, like their Sunday Dollar Days where admission, beers, sodas and hot dogs are all just 1USD. Ample parking and great views of The City by the Bay are an added plus.

BAM houses an impressive and ever-changing collection of fine art, sculpture and artifacts that span ages and cultures, countries and places. Find the masterpieces from the 18th Century on, from the Impressionists to the Surrealists, to 20th-century Post-modernists. Past exhibits have included a collection of mandolins from Tibet from the 15th Century, as well as the paintings of lesbian artist Romaine Brooks. Built at the turn of the 20th Century, this theater has played host not only to the University's graduation ceremonies, but has also been one of the premier venues in the city for live shows, and one of the only under the open sky. Designed like a classical Greek amphitheater with its tiered concrete seating and immense stage, it seats 8,000, every seat is a good one, and the acoustics are fantastic. Since it is outdoors, be sure to bring a coat or sweater as it gets chilly even during the summer, and a blanket if you want to sit on the grass before the stage. Call to have a schedule sent to you. A growing hub for musicians to showcase their talents, this facility was opened to promote and develop traditional music in Berkeley. The Freight's superb sound system is composed of speakers and amplifiers exclusively designed and installed by Meyer Sound Labs of Berkeley. Located across from the then-Samuel Goldwyn studio, stars like Frank Sinatra, Humphrey Bogart, James Dean, and Elvis Presley would pop into the legendary Formosa Cafe regularly for dining and drinks. On any given day, patrons might have seen Ava Gardner dancing past the old, red leather booths, or John Wayne nursing a late-night scotch (he was caught making scrambled eggs in our kitchen one morning, after reportedly passing out in a booth the night before).
Among the interior design restorations is the full reveal of the iconic and original red trolley car, dating back to 1904 and is confirmed to be the oldest surviving red train car in existence. Boxes of autographed celebrity photos and storage units of original memorabilia have made their way back into the Cafe.
