The Sun Inn, along with adjacent buildings on Church Street, was built on the site of Stoop Hall – a grand Medieval or Tudor Hall. Currently a renowned hotel in Lancaster, Lancashire, there was a recorded licence of Stoop Hall in 1680 and the licence was first transferred in 1684. In 1721, the hotel was first renamed to the Sun Inn on Stoop Hall, probably named after the stables that occupied the rear of the buildings. The Sun & Rising Sun were popular inn names of the period, in honour of King Charles II, after the harsh puritan rule of the reformation. The licence change of 1721 was the last time the hotel would have Stoop Hall in its title. The hotel offers 16 sleep rooms. Our beautiful 300-year-old building, with its stone walls, beams, original window frames and many of the original floorboards, are all that remain of the tired ‘back street boozer’ we purchased back in 2003. By visiting, you’ll find a very unique and cultured feel for a hotel in Lancaster city centre. With over £1m in investment by Lancaster Brewery and a complete overhaul and revamp over a ten year period. We’re proud of the Sun Hotel & Bar’s beautiful surroundings, its award-winning drinks offering and it’s friendly and inviting ambience that attracts people from far and wide making it one of the most luxurious hotels in Lancaster. Travel with confidence by checking into the The Sun Hotel & Bar, a hotel with outstanding services to make all your travels easy and comfortable.
