History of the Hotel: The Santa Fe Terminal Building #4, now known as the Aloft Hotel, was part of the Santa Fe terminal complex constructed in 1923-25 reported to be the then largest construction project in the country. The massive excavation included an underground network of railroad tunnels beneath the four buildings that centralized the Santa Fe Railway’s freight transferring and warehousing operations. So much concrete was used that a concrete mixing plant was created on site in the midst of the excavation. This was a time when railroads were dominant and this project helped to establish Dallas as a major business hub for the southwest. The new 193 room Aloft Hotel quickly became the flagship of Starwood’s Aloft brand created as a sister to the W Hotels brand. It is the only Aloft to date that is a historic rehabilitation as opposed to new construction. The old recycled warehouse lends itself perfectly to the loft theme, and hip and edgy finishes employed by the brand. This hotel in particular enjoys a special appeal that attracts big name guests who have included Brittney Spears, Jamie Foxx, Dolph Lundgren, Eva Longoria, Willie Mays, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, the casts of Wicked, 101 Dalmatians and many others. It has quickly positioned itself as Dallas’s hip and cool hotel.Awards:•Voted top 10 Best Corporate Hotels in North America•Highest rated downtown hotel by Trip Advisor
