Zijl kamer (1.3 on floorplan)

Détails de la chambre
According to Berlage, the Beurs van Berlage was to encourage the spiritual development of people and would be a wonderful community work.
Artists were put to work to decorate the Exchange center with as a central theme “the trade history of the Netherlands”. In accordance with the spirit of the times, all the artises were more or less followers of symbolism. This meant that they did not immediately reveal the significance of their work.
Lambertus Zijl (1866-1947) received a scholarship to the National School of Applied Arts and became a sculptor. He was part of Berlage’s regular team and also designed tableware and interior sculptures.
The artists are not only immortalised in the works of art that they left behind in the building, the breakout rooms in the building are also named after the masters. The Zijlkamer is located on the 1st floor. Often used as the office for the organisers.
