Jing An Temple
Jing An Temple
Historical landmark
5 mins
The Jing An district takes its name after the iconic Jing An temple. Despite being dwarfed by skyscrapers all around, the Jing An Temple’s awe-inspiring gold-themed architecture holds its ground and commands the respect befitting a heritage site. With its roots dating back to the Song dynasty in 1216, the Jing An temple has over the centuries undergone numerous transformations. The temple houses the largest jade Buddha in China and a copper bell that dates back to the Ming dynasty. In 1921, the temple was expanded, thus further enhancing its grandeur. It was converted into a plastic factory during the Cultural Revolution and the premise was destroyed by a fire but was finally restored to its former glory in 1983 at a cost of US$1 million.

Visitors can treat themselves to a display of Tai Chi every morning from the elderly park goers who do it as a form of exercise. In another corner, one will also find many bird lovers displaying their song birds with pride; receiving mutual admiration from fellow enthusiast.

Beyond the beautiful architecture, the Shanghai Exhibition Centre holds deep historical value and symbolizes the Sino-Soviet friendship of the 1950s to 1960s. Built in accordance to Soviet Neo-classical architectural specifications, the project was a gift from Stalin of the Soviet Union to the People’s Republic of China. To date, the Exhibition Centre retains the Soviet architectural grandeur of the 1950s both on the interior and exterior.

Apart from playing an integral role in making the “Hunan Self-governance Movement” possible, he also penned several papers from this very apartment. Listed as an official site for “Red Tourism”, The Mao House is protected by the state. Today, the house is a proud component of the Jing An Kerry Centre and is being restored as a museum.

Historical landmark

Constructed during the Ming Dynasty by the then-finance minister of Sichuan, Pan Yun Duan, the garden has survived the rise and fall of dynasties and is now a key relic site under the protection of the state. Spreading over 5 acres, the garden features the grandeur of the Ming Dynasty’s architecture with a hint of Qing Dynasty’s influence. , The beauty of the intricate designs on the buildings and overall façade of the towers are accentuated by the lake in the garden. With lighting installed around the garden, the site undergoes a 180 degrees transformation when the sun sets. The end result is a perfect combination of modernity and tradition. Adjacent to the Garden is a bazaar which by itself is another icon of Shanghai. Here, visitors can treat themselves to local delicacies on top of shopping for tasteful souvenirs. Along with the bazaar is the Yuyuan Old Street, known for being the centre of trade in pre-modern China as well as the “Cheng Huang” Temple, which is as ancient as the garden.

Crossed arms. Poked out bottom lips. Eye rolls. Sighs of displeasure. Mention team building, and you might get these reactions. The thought of another ropes course, forced togetherness or (gasp!) trust falls while keeping your already busy team from their work can create more stress than staying at the workplace. But not with On Purpose Adventures. Your group may need team building (focused on skill development/enhancement) or team bonding (focused on relationship-minded activities) or a combination of both. But whatever the activity, it needs to be facilitated WITH purpose and ON purpose. Most team building programs don’t tie the experience into real-world, job-related application. But ours does. On Purpose delivers team building and bonding with a purpose. Our programs are structured around the way your team operates, and can be tailored to fit your specific challenges and goals. Your team will engage in collaborative activities that build communication, cohesiveness, and enhance skills like collective problem solving, while having fun together. Team building and bonding with On Purpose Adventures brings your team members together in exciting, driven, purposeful activities that make a big impression and generate a genuine team response, keeping them productive and engaged. Skill enhancement happens in a real-life relatable structure, so your takeaways aren’t easily forgotten or lost as soon as the fun ends. Let us help you strengthen your team - on purpose.
