LAX is located south of the Westchester district of the city of Los Angeles, California, 18 miles (30 km) southwest of Downtown Los Angeles, between the district of Westchester to its immediate north, the city of El Segundo to its immediate south and the city of Inglewood to its immediate east. John Wayne Airport (IATA: SNA[4], ICAO: KSNA, FAA LID: SNA)[5] is an international airport in Orange County, California, United States, with its mailing address in the city of Santa Ana, hence the IATA airport code. The entrance to the airport is off MacArthur Blvd in Irvine, the city that borders the airport on the north and east. Newport Beach and Costa Mesa form the southern and western boundaries along with a small unincorporated area along the Corona del Mar (73) Freeway. Santa Ana is just north, not actually touching the airport. Originally named Orange County Airport, the county Board of Supervisors renamed it in 1979 to honor actor John Wayne, who lived in neighboring Newport Beach and died that year. John Wayne International Airport is the sole commercial airport in Orange County. General aviation operations outnumber commercial operations and several facilities at the airport serve the general aviation and corporate aviation community. The other general aviation airport in the county is Fullerton Municipal Airport. Other commercial airports nearby are Hollywood Burbank Airport, Long Beach Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Ontario International Airport. Hollywood Burbank Airport, legally Bob Hope Airport,[3] (IATA: BUR, ICAO: KBUR, FAA LID: BUR) is a public airport 3 miles (4.8 km) northwest of downtown Burbank, in Los Angeles County, California.[1] The airport serves the northern Greater Los Angeles area, including Glendale, Pasadena, and the San Fernando Valley. It is closer to Griffith Park and Hollywood than Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and is the only airport in the area with a direct rail connection to downtown Los Angeles. Non-stop flights mostly serve cities in the western United States, while JetBlue Airways has daily flights to New York City and Boston. Van Nuys Airport (IATA: VNY, ICAO: KVNY, FAA LID: VNY) is a public airport in Van Nuys in the San Fernando Valley section of the City of Los Angeles, California. No major airlines fly into this airport, which is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports. Van Nuys Airport is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the world. With two parallel runways, Van Nuys Airport averages over 230,000 takeoffs and landings annually[1]. The airport is home to the Van Nuys FlyAway Bus service, which runs nonstop buses to Los Angeles International Airport for travelers who park their cars at Van Nuys. Many news, medical transport, and tour helicopters from the Los Angeles area are based at Van Nuys Airport. The Los Angeles City Fire Department operates its Air Operations Unit at Van Nuys Airport. Torrance Municipal Airport (Zamperini Field) serves as a general aviation airport with approximately 543 based aircraft. While home to primarily private aircraft, it also houses several Fixed Base Operators (FBOs) which are available for flight instruction, aircraft repair, and charter flights. The Airport is also the headquarters for Robinson Helicopters, the largest manufacturer of private helicopters in the United States. Torrance Municipal Airport - Zamperini Field is a valuable asset for both business promotion and recreation in the South Bay area.
