Located in the highway 307 along the coast in Quintana Roo you are pretty well in the Mayan Riviera. This highway runs from Cancun all the way down to Belize. The Mayan Riviera ends after Tulum, where the Costa Maya begins. Playa del Carmen town is considered the heart of the equally-booming Riviera Maya just 68 km ( 42 miles) south of Cancun resort, offers with its warm 5th Avenue, a pedestrian walkway set with its relaxed, laid-back atmosphere keeps the bohemian laid-back ambiance that makes it so irresistible. It is safe to say that Playa del Carmen´s appeal can reach out to just about anyone who is seeking to enjoy a one of a kind vacation. Playa del Carmen also counts with many commercial areas, which include traditional artesian stores and Mexican flea markets, besides the surrounding archeological sites like Tulum and Chichen Itza; and the ecological parks like Xcaret, Xelha, Tankah, Aktun Chen, Sian Ka ´an and the less populated spots like Punta Bete, Xcalacoco, Paamul, Xpu-Há and Tulum Downtown are better known for their rustic and more informal atmosphere.
