Historical landmark
The Southernmost Point Buoy is one of Key West’s most iconic and photographed landmarks. Located at the corner of Whitehead and South Streets, this massive, brightly painted concrete buoy was installed in 1983 by the City of Key West to mark the southernmost point of the continental United States. Standing 12 feet tall and 7 feet wide, it boldly proclaims “90 Miles to Cuba,” symbolizing the island’s unique geographic and cultural connection to the Caribbean.
