1980 forderte die in Saint Paul lebende Sally Ordway Irvine ihre Gemeinde auf, ihr bei der Schaffung eines Veranstaltungsortes für darstellende Kunst zu helfen, in dem ihr Traum, „alles von der Oper bis zum russischen Zirkus“ anzubieten, verwirklicht werden konnte. Sie ging mit gutem Beispiel voran, indem sie die erste Spende an einen Fonds leistete, der schließlich das Ordway Center for the Performing Arts errichtete.
Im Ordway befinden sich das Music Theatre mit 1.900 Sitzplätzen, das gemütliche McKnight Theatre mit 306 Sitzplätzen, zwei große Proberäume und herrliche Lobbys auf jeder Etage, darunter das Marzitelli Foyer im zweiten Stock, eine geräumige, zweistöckige Lobby, die von einer Glasfassade umgeben ist.
