Die Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer ist die zentrale Gedenkstätte der deutschen Teilung und befindet sich mitten in der Hauptstadt. Es befindet sich an der historischen Stätte an der Bernauer Straße und erstreckt sich über 1,4 Kilometer des ehemaligen Grenzstreifens. Das Denkmal enthält das letzte Stück der Berliner Mauer mit dem dahinter liegenden erhaltenen Gelände und kann so einen Eindruck davon vermitteln, wie sich die Grenzbefestigungen bis Ende der 1980er Jahre entwickelt haben. Die Ereignisse, die hier stattfanden, sowie die erhaltenen historischen Überreste und die ausgestellten Spuren von Grenzhindernissen tragen dazu bei, den Besuchern die Geschichte der deutschen Teilung verständlich zu machen. Die Gedenkstätte ist Teil der Stiftung Berliner Mauer, zu der auch das Museum Refugee Center Marienfelde gehört, der zentrale Ort, der der Geschichte von Flucht und Auswanderung im geteilten Deutschland gewidmet ist.
