In einem flachen, 19 cm tiefen, 16 m breiten und 19 m langen Becken, das in schwarzen Mastixasphalt gegossen wurde, platzierte der Künstler neun schwarze Figuren, die von Niederspannungsstrom angetrieben wurden und Wasser ausstoßen, während sie sich bewegen. Diese neun eisernen Eminenzen unterhalten sich fröhlich miteinander wie die Mimen, die Schauspieler und Tänzer einst genau an dieser Stelle auf der Bühne taten. Mit diesem Brunnen hat der beliebte Künstler Basel ein neues Wahrzeichen verliehen. Unabhängig vom Wetter ist der Springbrunnen immer voller Menschen, die zum Picknick animiert oder bewegt werden, um ein Gespräch mit einem Fremden aufzunehmen. Dieses Kunstwerk ist in gewisser Weise Teil des Lebens der Basler Einwohner geworden, wie es nur wenige andere Objekte getan haben.
