Als der berühmte Columbus-Industrielle W.C. Bradley 1947 starb, spendete seine Familie sein 13 Hektar großes Anwesen der Stadt Columbus, um es als Kultur- und Bildungszentrum zu nutzen. Das Columbus Museum of Arts and Crafts befindet sich im Herzen des Stadtteils Wynnton in einem Haus der Wiedergeburt des Mittelmeers von 1912 und öffnete am 29. März 1953 seine Türen für die Öffentlichkeit. Direktor Edward Swift Shorter stellte schnell einen ehrgeizigen Zeitplan vor, der Vorträge und Kurse im Zusammenhang mit den Ausstellungen bildender Kunst und archäologischer Artefakte der Indianer im Museum umfasste.
