El club social y deportivo GlaxoSmithKline se fundó en 1946 y ocupó un local alquilado en Queen Street hasta que se trasladó a su edificio actual, que se erigió en 1954. El edificio ha sufrido muchas modificaciones y ampliaciones a lo largo de los años para atender al creciente número de miembros. El club tiene tres bares separados: el bar principal, el bar salón y el bar de la sala de conciertos, todos los cuales ofrecen una gama completa de bebidas alcohólicas y no alcohólicas a precios extremadamente competitivos, de hecho, los precios más bajos de la zona de Barnard Casle. Un lujoso y elegante salón de 80 plazas con música de fondo de alta fidelidad es un lugar popular por las noches y los fines de semana y alberga noches regulares de concursos y karaoke, además de ser una sala popular para fiestas, bautizos y bufés. Su sala de conciertos es un lugar moderno equipado con un sistema de iluminación y sonido ultramoderno. Con su propio bar, este salón es un lugar popular para actos teatrales, bodas y grandes eventos corporativos.
