About us
Make history at The Menger. Since 1859, The Menger Hotel has welcomed travelers to Alamo Plaza, right beside the Alamo in the heart of downtown San Antonio. As the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi, The Menger has hosted presidents, generals, cattle barons and writers. Theodore Roosevelt, O. Henry, Sidney Lanier and Oscar Wilde all stayed here, earning the hotel a place on the Literary Landmarks Register. That history is still part of every stay. Attendees walk beneath globe-lit balconies in the Victorian lobby, past marble wainscoting, mosaic tile floors, original oil paintings and antiques. Guest rooms pair carved wood furnishings and plantation shutters with crisp white linens and modern comfort. For meetings, The Menger offers ballrooms and flexible meeting rooms for board meetings, breakouts, receptions and banquets, supported by our catering team and Encore, our in-house AV provider. Between sessions, groups unwind in the sunlit lobby lounge, the garden courtyard and the palm-shaded pool. When the day's agenda wraps, the evening begins at the Menger Bar, established 1859, a favorite gathering spot for groups just off Alamo Plaza. Dining options include Mengerita Tacos. Step outside and your attendees are in the center of it all: the Alamo next door, the River Walk minutes away and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center two blocks from our door. Every Menger group has a dedicated sales contact from first inquiry to final checkout.
