EMBL Heidelberg is gevestigd in de metropoolregio Rhein Neckar, een gebied van wetenschappelijke, economische en culturele ontwikkeling in Zuidwest-Duitsland. De stad is de thuisbasis van de oudste universiteit van Duitsland en is een wereldberoemd onderzoekscentrum voor industrie en wetenschap. Heidelberg is de perfecte locatie voor EMBL-conferenties, omdat het een uitstekende reputatie geniet op het gebied van wetenschap en onderzoek en het zeer gemakkelijk te bereiken is in het centrum van Europa. EMBL is gunstig gelegen in een schilderachtige omgeving op een heuvel met uitzicht op de Rijnvallei, op 10 minuten met de taxi van het stadscentrum van Heidelberg en het centraal station. Overdag is er openbaar vervoer beschikbaar en tijdens conferenties zorgt EMBL voor regelmatige bustransfers tussen EMBL, het stadscentrum van Heidelberg en de hotels. Het EMBL Advanced Training Centre (ATC), de nieuwe, DNA-vormige conferentieruimte met dubbele spiraalvormige vorm in het hart van Europa, zet de toon voor een nieuw tijdperk van wetenschappelijke conferenties bij EMBL. Het ATC bevordert geavanceerde opleiding en onderwijs voor wetenschappers van over de hele wereld en beschikt over ultramoderne trainingsfaciliteiten voor praktische cursussen en computerlabs, samen met een auditorium met 450 zitplaatsen. Het is geïntegreerd in de EMBL Heidelberg-campus en beschikt ook over een nieuwe kantine, die voorziet in de cateringbehoeften van de komende conferentie- en trainingsevenementen. Naast de ATC blijft EMBL zijn conferentiefaciliteiten in het hoofdgebouw exploiteren, waaronder seminarruimten van verschillende groottes en het Operon-auditorium met 300 zitplaatsen. Deze faciliteiten worden echter over het algemeen gebruikt voor interne doeleinden en mogen slechts uitzonderlijk worden gebruikt om tegemoet te komen aan de specifieke behoeften van organisatoren van evenementen. In het hoofdgebouw organiseert EMBL over het algemeen al zijn interne evenementen. Er zijn verschillende zalen van verschillende groottes beschikbaar, van kleine vergaderzalen tot de grote Operon-collegezaal, die plaats biedt aan maximaal 300 personen, en kan worden opgedeeld in een seminarruimte voor 100 en 200 personen.
