Sinds hij zijn vleugels uitsloeg in februari 1998 is The Angel of the North van Antony Gormley een van de meest besproken openbare kunstwerken die ooit zijn gemaakt.
De Angel, die 20 meter boven de aarde uitsteekt bij de A1 in Gateshead, domineert de skyline en overschaduwt iedereen die naar de skyline komt kijken.
