We are offering the opportunity for some of our exciting innovators to meet senior leaders from global manufacturers. This includes 1:1 time in a private room as part of an event hearing from experts and wider networking.

    • Managing without adhesives, or managing around adhesives 
    • Companies who can shred cells, modules etc and have capacity to scale
  • Energy Ecosystems (BESS, V2X, Renewable balancing), EV ecosystem demonstrators with energy / mobility and housing partners
    • Remove the barrier for customers – reduce complexity, improved customer experience
    • Offer benefits to use the vehicle as part of integrated ecosystem – e.g. payment as part of V2G system
    • Modelling digital twin of car and charging system – find the model that optimises both
  • Powertrain / motors / drives (e.g. Bonded Magnet and Sintered Magnet technology)
    • Particular interest in magnets and their source location to diversify – resilience is key area
    • Looking for higher performance, lower unit costs, sustainability requirements
      • Need options to scale – to deal in 1000s+ rather than lab level
    • Next gen of electric machines – for production in the late 2020s
      • research is of interest but prefer existing proof of concept and ideally in market with customers

Interest in Communications & Sensors, AI Machine Learning, Digital Twins, Autonomy, Edge Computing

  • Quantum communications, quantum computing, quantum sensing
  • Autonomy – flight autonomy, possibly maritime autonomy (rather than road)
  • Air control – via connectivity, integrating technology with land and air
  • Energy management (e.g. batteries & systems) – applied to devices such as drones rather than factory level – smaller, being operation in unforgiving environments
  • Synthetic environments – digital twin
  • Robotics in extreme environments
  • Sensing / sensors, semi-conductors, communications, 5G & 6G comms

Nissan

  • Automated battery pack discharge, disassembly and recycling
  • Motors& drives – interest in novel machine design with focus on proven products in low volume production that are ready to scaled up in partnership
  • EV systems – all areas including Battery Management Systems, energy use reduction etc
  • Manufacturing, including specific interests in energy ecosystems, V2X, decarbonisation of gas processes, novel paint processes to deliver improved conditions
  • Solid state battery development (for potential link to Japanese led development teams)

Tata

Strong interest in

  • Emerging opportunity for steel application – specifically floating offshore wind (e.g. Celtic sea tender process – install from 2029)
    • Green steel within the platforms and towers - R&D into creating these – implications for tata products
  • Electric arc furnace applied steel – where can it be applied (reduce or remove preconceptions about this steel grade, quality etc) educate how it’s used
  • Application of steel into automotive including bodies and electric machines
  • South Wales focus – Port Talbot site deployment
