Homelessness Week 2021 is just around the corner, and since our last email we are pleased to have many more events to share with you!

Wednesday 4 August: The Lady Musgrave Trust and the Forum Working Group are hosting the 13th Annual Forum on Women and Homelessness - Seize the Momentum: New Solutions to Tackle Women’s Homelessness. 10am-12pm.
There’s a lot of momentum building in this country right now – for women’s voices to be heard and for solutions to end homelessness. We’ve seen the drastic impacts COVID-19 has had on vulnerable women, migration, secure housing and female refugees, but where are we at now? Join the Forum and be part of solutions.

3 August. Gladstone Homeless Connect brings together businesses and community groups at a one-day event to provide free services to people experiencing homelessness, or those at risk of homelessness. 10am-2pm at Roseberry Dignity Club, 20 Rollo St, Gladstone

5 August. Mareeba Community Housing Company are launching their book, "Our Homeless: looking in from the dark" from 3.30-5pm at Mareeba Art Society, Centenary Park, Mareeba
Sunshine Coast
7 August, 10am-1.30pm. Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre, 2 Fifth Ave, Cotton Tree, is holding its annual Care and Connect Day which will include a range of services from medical and allied health services, housing, legal, AOD, mindfulness, census crew, hairdressers plus a theatre troupe and jumping castle, popcorn and face painting for children. 
The Sunshine Coast Housing and Homelessness Network is presenting a Housing & Homelessness Roadshow at community centres across the Sunshine Coast.

National Launch
Register here for Homelessness Week's national launch (online) on Monday 2 August, 11.00-12.15pm.
Launched by Minister Sukkar, Minister for Housing and Homelessness and hosted by the ABC’s Patricia Karvelas, Dr Angela Jackson, Lead Economist, Equity Economics will talk about her report commissioned by the Everybody’s Home campaign: Nowhere to go: the benefits of providing long term social housing to women who have experienced domestic and family violence. Angela will outline the impact of lack of access to social housing on women fleeing violence, and the economic benefits to women and the community of providing safe affordable homes, so women can rebuild their lives
This will be followed by a panel discussion including including Jason Clare, Shadow Housing and Homelessness Minister, Senator Mehreen Faruqi, Greens spokesperson on housing and homelessness and Angela Jackson.  
1- 31 August. #giftitorgohome. Local radio station Southern Cross Austero MMM are partnering with Sharehouse Youth Programs to raise funds via gift cards to assist people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness within Townsville. Donate here.
Interviews will be broadcasted with people with lived experience and service providers. Stay tuned for the whole month to learn more.
3 - 6 August. #thisishomelessness. The Women's Centre are organising a static display at Willows Shopping Centre, 13 Hervey Range Road, Thuringowa. The display will include people with lived experience sharing stories on how they became homeless and how the community can help. Staff from service organisations will be available 10am – 2pm daily to have conversations with people.
5 August. Townsville Drop In Centre is holding a Mni Expo with stalls and a BBQ lunch.
5 August. Townsville Chamber are hosting a free "Chamber Coffee" networking morning featuring a Homelessness social enterprise. Contact the Chamber for more details.
5 August. Anglicare Central Queensland are hosting a sausage sizzle from 10am at Parrot Park (Queens Park), North Rockhampton. For further information contact the Homelessness Team on 1300 769 814. View their invitation here
Moreton Bay
5 August. Moreton Bay Housing and Homelessness Network presents Reconnect, a free event for people experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness. Access information and support from health professionals, government and community organisations.
Free haircuts, clothing and blankets, mindfulness and creative activities, and hot food and beverages will be available. 6am-12pm at Pensioners Hall, cnr Portwood & Oxley Ave, Redcliffe.
6 August. Spring Hill Dillabah Gardens Open Day. 11am - 2pm at the Lady Bowen Precinct: Milne St [Spring Hill] Carpark and Roma House Gardens.
6-7 August. Dillabah Gardens Art Exhibtion. Q Shelter is hosting this year's Dillabah Gardens Art Exhibition which celebrates artists with lived experience of homelessness and social housing.
Enjoy arts and craft, information stalls, music, performances, food and hot beverages, kid’s activities and more! Open to all ages and walks of life.

Homelessness Week is a timely reminder of both the great work happening in the sector and the need to continue our efforts to see every Queenslander with a home.
Q Shelter’s Skills in Action web series provides an opportunity to improve our responses through learning and engagement.
From 16-27 August, we will host 11 online events on a range of topics including the rise of citizen-led responses to homelessness, values-driven branding, and the ways homelessness impacts LGBTIQ+ populations. Learn more about the topics covered and register here.
