The WHO calls for increased implementation of interventions against malaria. Over 1.5 million high-risk children in Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi have received their first dose of the RTS,S malaria vaccine through  WHO's pilot program. Widespread use of malaria vaccines could save tens of thousands of children annually. Read More

My name is Astou Diallo, a pharmacist in Medical Biology at the  Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC) in Bamako. I come  from Mali, and I am 27 years old, currently located in Bamako. I started working on malaria during my MSc thesis at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in 2002. I did my MSc thesis in collaboration with a PhD student from the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d'Ivoire, on the transmission intensity of malaria in areas with rice agriculture. My MSc thesis focused on the laboratory part to assess the infection rate of the mosquitoes and the origin of their blood meals. My first experience in the lab was to dissect mosquitoes and their salivary glands to look for sporozoites! ... Read more
